WHAT WE DO
During this time, students experience a mix of social, spiritual, discussion, activity, and lesson times, which vary, depending on the topic of the night. Our Middle School students are a combined group, though they are divided by grade level for discussions, which are geared towards their levels and needs.
Our Middle School Program uses resources from the EDGE program, which is made by Life Teen. This program allows us to focus on three core tenets for our students (The Creed, The Liturgy, and Catholic Morality) over the course of a three year cycle. This helps our students deepen their understanding of their faith in a way that can more easily engage with and understand.
Middle School students are invited to attend up to three different events geared directly towards them, each of which takes place on a Saturday during the school year. Participation in these events is highly encouraged for all who are eligible to attend.
Middle School Fall Retreat (at St. George)
Middle School Catholic Fest (in Duluth, Georgia)
VBS Prep Week and VBS (at St. George)
New for 2020 - 2021
Eighth Grade Spring Retreat (at St. George)
Please check the Faith Formation Calendar and the St. George Bulletin for specific dates and times.
If your student is in elementary school or above, and needs to be baptized, they must be enrolled in Faith Formation classes for one year in order to receive the sacrament, which will be celebrated at the Easter Vigil Mass. To learn more about this sacrament or to view baptismal requirements, please visit our Baptism page by clicking the box below.
First Holy Communion
Students can receive First Holy Communion as early as second grade in our Faith Formation program, provided that they were enrolled and actively attended Faith Formation in at least the first grade. (For students who begin Faith Formation later than first grade, they will still have to take two years of preparation classes, beginning the year in which they are first enrolled.) Middle School students will receive the their First Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil Mass.
During their first year of sacramental preparation, they will learn about the sacrament of Reconciliation. Their specific preparations for receiving the Eucharist will take place during their second year. To learn more about the sacrament of the Eucharist, please click the link below.
A requirement for acceptance into the St. George Confirmation Program is to be enrolled in Faith Formation for one year prior to beginning Confirmation preparations. As such, enrollment in our Middle School Program in at least the eighth grade is necessary to meet that requirement. Students opting not to attend Faith Formation for the full three years of Middle School will be placed in a Pre-Confirmation class so we can ensure their preparedness.
