Lent at St. George
CRS Rice Bowls
For Lent, For Life
Through the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowls, we journey with members of our human family around the world, and commit our Lenten prayers, fasting, and almsgiving to deepening our faith and serving those in need. Please pick up a Rice Bowl in the Parish Hall and fill it with money you would have spent on the thing(s) you are giving up as part of your Lenten sacrifice.
All Rice Bowls are due back on Palm Sunday
St. George Parish Pilgrimage
October 4-13, 2020
If you are seeking to deepen your faith in a tangible way, Fr. Henry will lead a 10-Day Pilgrimage next year to Greece and Turkey, to follow in the footsteps of St Paul. The pilgrimage will include stops in Thessaloniki, Central Greece, Athens, Mykono, Patmos, and Ephesus, along with a 3-Day Aegean Cruise. Come learn about the Early Church and the lives of the earliest Christians. The cost per person is $3,895.00.
Please contact Mary Millay at 678.857.3747 or email@example.com for more information. Pamphlets may be picked up on the Information Table in the Parish Hall.
"The Church and the world have great need of Eucharistic adoration. Jesus waits for us in this sacrament of love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration and contemplation full of faith.... May our adoration never cease." - Pope John Paul II
The Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the chapel, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am until 9:00pm. Come let us adore Him!
2020 Archbishop's Annual Appeal
This year's Archbishop's Annual Appeal theme is "You are the light of the world". The funds we raise from the Annual Appeal help support many different ministries and offices in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, including the Respect Life Ministry, formation of priests and permanent deacons, Marriage and Family Life Ministry, Office of Formation and Discipleship, and so many more.
Our Parish Goal is $57,700.
Lifelong Faith Formation
"Catechesis is the act of handing on the Word of God intended to inform the faith community and candidates for initiation into the Church about the teachings of Christ, transmitted by the Apostles to the Church. Catechesis also involves the lifelong effort of forming people into witnesses to Christ and opening their hearts to the spiritual transformation given by the Holy Spirit." - USCCB
While Faith Formation is required for all K-12 students, it does not end at Confirmation, nor at the completion of High School. In order to have a well-formed faith, the faithful must continue to learn throughout their lives. Please take advantage of all of the Faith Formation opportunities available to you at St. George.
St. George has FORMED
St. George is partnered with Formed, which is an online resource for Catholics to delve further into their faith with books, movies, and audio and video programs, covering a variety of topics. Offerings are available in English and Spanish. We invite you to check out this free program to see what it can offer you.
To begin, go to www.stgeorgenewnan.formed.org and click "Register Now". Then, fill in the required information and you will be ready to start!
Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults
The Archdiocese of Atlanta provides VIRTUS training for all adults so that we, as a parish community, can ensure that all members of our parish community are safe from harm. Any and all members of parish ministries that come in contact with minors and vulnerable adults should attend a VIRTUS training so that, together, we can continue to keep everyone safe. Please click the logo to the left to be taken directly to the VIRTUS website.
In addition to VIRTUS training, all ministry members should have a background check on file. Please contact the Parish Office to run your background check and/or check your VIRTUS status.
St. George Haiti Store
The St. George Haiti store has been completely remodeled and now looks amazing. They still stock a wide variety of religious items like rosaries, prayer books, saint statues, medals, jewelry, and candles, just to name a few. The store is open after all weekend Masses, so stop by for all of your Catholic needs. All proceeds go to support the Haiti Ministry's continued efforts to help the people of Haiti, and they thank you for your continued patronage.
